Like all the best things in life, Musica is many different things to many different people.
At first glance, through the windows of the Hudson Avenue storefront, it seems obvious: it’s a music store. But not just any music store! This shop has personality! Full of almost-but-not-quite disorderly shelves, racks, and displays, the wares on sale here range from the expected (beginners’ guitars and violins) to the unusual (button accordions and professional quality slide whistles) to the downright exotic (a quica?! a harmonium?!). And then there are the stacks upon stacks of music teaching books and sheet music, for any instrument, for any style. It’s apparent that Musica is a place where musical worlds meet, even intersect, making a piece of paradise where you can buy any music-making materials you can imagine.
But surely that’s not all! As the sign in the window tells you, this is not just a simple retail shop, pay your money and take home the prize. No, you can also come here to Musica to learn how to play a vast variety of instruments, or to have repairs done on the same. Need inspiration or advice? That’s on offer, too. Musica’s objective is simple: to create more music in the world.
And it’s because of this that the most beautiful aspect of Musica exists: the community. Extending beyond the door of the shop are the relationships that have been formed within. Bands have been formed, friendships have been made, performances have been conceived. Musica is a beacon, a guiding light, drawing in flute-tooters, mandolin-pickers, drum-bangers, folk singers, song-writers, guitar-noodlers, and their hangers-on from all over the area. And this, alone, is reward enough for the store’s existence.
